Adoption numbers plunge

download (30)

The number of foreign children adopted by Spanish parents over the last decade has plunged from over 5,500 to just 531…representing a drop of more than 90%
The effects of the economic crisis, the refusal by some countries to let same-sex couples adopt, and long waiting times have been cited as causes for the sharp decline.
But new voices are starting to add surrogacy as another primary reason. While the practice isn’t legal in Spain, hundreds of couples are seeking the service elsewhere, in countries such as the United States or the Ukraine, where the cost is much lower at around 40,000 Euros.
