Benidorm council pledges to reduce CO2 emissions to zero

BayRadio | October 8, 2018

All electric power used by Benidorm council, including public lighting and municipal buildings, is soon to be fully sourced from renewable energy.

An agreement has been reached by the authority to adopt a framework issued by the Diputacion de Alicante on electricity consumption.

As a result, all CO2 emissions will be reduced to zero as part of the Sustainable Energy Action Plan and Councillor for the Environment, Jose Ramon Gonzalez de Zarate, said: “The adoption of this framework is very positive for Benidorm, because we will be able to make important financial savings in the lighting of our buildings and streets.

“At the same time this policy will ensure that all our energy will be from renewable sources.”

The new “derivative contract” will mean a saving of between 4.7 and 16 per cent in expenditure, depending on the type of tariff and duration period.
