Costa Blanca hospital extension plans confirmed

BayRadio | May 21, 2018

AFTER more than two years of planning and negotiations, the Valencian Government now has the plot of land needed to expand the Marina Baixa hospital in Villajoyosa.

The plan is to begin the programme of works on the 22,000m2 site in early 2019, and the local people will finally get the bigger hospital they’ve been requesting for many years.

The official document was signed by the Minister of Finance, Vicente Soler, and passed on to the Villajoyosa Town Council to enable the tender process to be put into place.

The expansion of the Marina Baixa hospital – which has operated for more than 30 years – will see an extra 66 beds taking the total up to 336.

It will also feature the areas of medical treatment which see the most need such as Radiology, Paediatrics, Gynaecological and Obstetrics, all of which will get their own dedicated operating theatres.

The total cost for the building works has been estimated at €12.3 million, and if everything goes to plan should see its first patients using the new facilities in 2022.
