Tony Myles

Tony Myles presents The Breakfast Show on Saturday and Sunday on BayRadio.

Tony was born in Douglas on the Isle of Man, and worked on Manx Radio, which claims to be the first commercial radio station in the British Isles.

He was educated in Scotland, which explains the hint of a Scottish accent, has lived in Yorkshire and worked on Pennine Radio when it first opened in Bradford. He also had a hit record during the Brit Boom of the 1960s!

Tony boasts knowing some famous people including Marvin Gaye (who introduced himself to Tony), Tom Jones (borrowed his guitar for his backing group), Van Morrison (Tony Shared a hotel with pop group Them while they were struggling) - Jimmy Page (who played a guest spot on one of Tony’s records) - Keith Richards (who didn’t like the fact that his manager had signed Tony’s band), Sir Cliff (with whom he discussed British Tennis and the lack thereof) - Brian Epstein (a total gentleman apparently) - Gerry Marsden (hilarious on tour) - Gene Pitney, The Supremes, Dionne Warwick and many more…

He has also worked in IT for a number of years and had a global sales role for General Electric. He’s worked in Russia, Norway, Kenya, South Africa, Dubai, Belgium, Spain, Italy and around the UK.

Tony is now living in Spain but with a toehold in the UK due to his mates and the need to remind himself of just how fantastic the Spanish Costa Blanca is!

28/8/10 : An American and a Russian spy arrange to meet and swap secrets and they agreed to meet at a bar. The Russian spy arrives to find that the American spy is already there. "I won't have a driink because you may have arranged to poison it", he says. "No need to worry, Comrade. I will order two drinks and you can choose one and then I will drink the other one right away."

So that is what they did. They both had gin and tonics with ice and lemon.

The American picks his up and says "Cheers Buddy!" - and knocks it back. "Now you can relax and lets talk business", he says. After fifteen minutes they leave and as they do so the American says "I am sorry to tell you that you have been poisoned."

How did he do it without poisoning himself?
Many suggested that he had a poison on his hands and when they shook hands he transfered it. Several others suggested that the American had the antidote which was a good answer but the real answer is that the poison was in the ice and wasn't released until the ice melted. Because he drank his right away there was no poison in the Americans gin and tonic.

They were playing MONOPOLY the car was the player marker's and the fee for landing on the square with the hotel bankrupted him. If he had missed it, it is possible that the other player would have landed on one of his squares and owed him money.

11/7/10 : You need to measure exactly 6 litres of water but you have only a 9 litre jug and a 4 litre jug. How can you do it?
First fill the 9-litre jug. Then pour 4 litres to the 4-litre bowl (there are 5 litres left in the 9 litre bowl afterwards) and pour out the water from the 4 litre bowl. And again pour 4 litres to the 4 litre jug and empty it. Then pour the remaining one litre into the 4 litre jug - but this time keep it there. Fill the 9 litre jug to the top for the second time and then pour enough water to fill the 4 litre jug to the top. This will need 3 litres and so the required 6 litres stay in the 9 litre jug.

Problem is that one door leads to freedom and the other leads back into the prison where you will be detained. You can persuade the guards to tell you which door to choose but one always tells lies and the other always tells the truth. But you don't know which is which. So what do you ask and to which guard?
It doesn't matter which guard you ask the following question - "If I ask the other guard which door to choose for freedom what will he tell me?" And then choose the other one.
12/6/10 : There is a collection of 26 reference books on a shelf, arranged in alphabetical order from left to right. Each volume is exactly one inch wide plus the covers which are one eight of an inch thick. A bookworm starts eating its way through the volumes starting at the outside front cover of volume A and eating all the way through to the back cover of volume Z. How many inches did he eat??
Answer - 30 inches. The outside front cover of Volume A is inside by one and a quarter inches and the outside back cover of Z is the same. So the worm eats through exactly 24 volumes (not 26) = 24 x 1.25 inches = 30 inches

29/5/10 : A golf equipment manufacturer is trying to develop a new golf ball and one of the tests they are doing is to determine how long it takes for golf ball to sink, if hit into water. They have two tests set up - to reflect different weather conditions - the first is indoors where the temperature is 49 degrees Fahrenheit and the second is outdoors where it is 20 degrees cooler. They drop a golf ball from three feet above a container filled with ordinary water to a depth of three feet both indoors and outside. They apply the same tests to both containers simultaneously. Which one will hit the bottom of the container first??
At 20 degrees cooler the outside temperature is 29 F and the water is frozen. So the ball dropped onto the outside container hits the ice and doesn't reach the bottom.

"Oh very well, Sir. Maybe we could agree on a special arrangement. There are six nails in each shoe and four shoes so that would be 24 nails. I will shoe your horse if you pay me just 10 cents for the first nail, 20 cents for the second one, 40 cents for the third and so one, just double the amount for each nail."

"Ah! That is much better." Says the miser and he agrees to the deal.

8/5/10 : You wake up in your bedroom and it is completely dark. You have no idea what time it is. There are no timepieces in the room that you can see. As you lie there you hear a clock striking once. You know that this clock strikes once on every quarter and then the number of the hour. So for example at quarter to four it would strike once and then four times at four o'clock. The mindbender questions is - what is the longest time you would have to wait before knowing exactly what time it is?
Answer is 90 minutes. The longest sequence of single strikes is between 12.15 and 1.45 which is 7 strikes. So if the clock strikes once seven times you know it is 1.45.

Lots of people thought it was something to do with Leap Years but the correct answer is as follows: The conversation took place on 1st January and the boy's birthday was on 31st December. So two days ago (30th December) he was 7. Yesterday on his birthday he was 8. This year he will be 9 and next year he will be 10!
