Spanish PM announces trip to Barcelona after weekend violence

Caretaker prime minister, Pedro Sánchez is in Catalonia today “to visit police officers who were injured in the violent disturbances of the past weekend.
Sánchez, who was reportedly not planning to meet with the leader of the Catalan government Quim Torra, has instead sent him a letter reminding him of the obligations of the office that he holds, such as condemning violence, protecting law enforcement officers and avoiding civil unrest.
Regional health authorities say 593 have been injured in the protests, nearly half of them police, and 14 remain hospitalized. In all, 194 people were arrested.
