Ahead of Spanish election, fake Facebook pages spend €40,000 on ads

BayRadio | October 31, 2019

Facebook have opened an investigation after pages paying up to €40,000 for political adverts on the social media site criticised political rivals of Spain’s conservative Popular Party (PP).

The 59 ads, which have been viewed nearly nine million times, criticise the (PSOE) Socialist Party of acting Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, center-right Ciudadanos, far-right Vox and the anti-austerity party Unidas Podemos.

The pages, which have now been suspended, were named after the various parties and encouraged abstention at the upcoming general election on November 10.
