Vaccine rollout to reach 70% target in weeks

MINISTER of Health Carolina Darias has called for Spain to continue its fight against Covid-19 and the ongoing need to control the contagion.

Speaking before the health and consumer affairs committee in the Spanish parliament, she underlined the importance of “perseverance, both at an individual and institutional level”.

She said the need to control the spread of the disease through a combination of measures adopted by regional authorities, responsible behaviour by the public, and, at its heart, the mass vaccination programme.

Covid-19 continues to attack vulnerable people and those who have yet to be immunised and the minister said the country needed to maintain a very active culture of care while continuing the rollout of jabs.

And she said 70% of Spain would have received at least one dose of a vaccine in the next six weeks.

Making comparisons across the 27 member states of the EU, Spain stands sixth in the percentage of people who have received at least one shot; fourth in the percentage of population fully vaccinated; and third in the percentage of people being vaccinated daily.
