Catalan regional premier Quim Torra says that if the Supreme Court upholds a ruling barring him from office

BayRadio | January 16, 2020

Catalan regional premier Quim Torra says that if the Supreme Court upholds a ruling barring him from office, and the regional parliament abides by that sentence, then elections will be called in the northeastern region.

Magistrates are considering an appeal by Torra against a ruling by the Catalan regional High Court, which found him guilty of disobedience for refusing to remove pro-independence banners from public buildings during an election campaign.

The speaker of the Catalan parliament, Roger Torrent, said the chamber would fight for Torra to stay in his role “until a final decision is made.”
