Thieves smashed their way into a Stockholm art gallery in the early hours yesterday morning, snatching ten bronze sculptures and drawings by the Spanish surrealist Salvador Dali.

The gang shattered the glass doors to Galleri Couleur in the upmarket district of Östermalm at four in the morning, immediately triggering the alarm.

The thieves managed to speed away in a getaway car before police arrived in what appeared to officers to be a well-planned operation.
