Eight hotel workers have tested positive for Covid-19 on Formentera and Menorca in the Balearic Islands.

Five people have been quarantined in Formentera after tests confirmed they had coronavirus.

All have been identified locally as maintenance workers at the unnamed “large-sized” hotel on the island, although initially some were said to be waiters.

The hotel remains open because the workers had no contact with guests.

An employee at another hotel in Menorca had tested positive for Covid-19.

Subsequent tests on two women she lives with, and are also understood to work at the hotel, showed they too had the virus.

Around a dozen other people they have had close contact have been quarantined and are due to be tested for Covid-19.
