Benitachell’s Cala de Moraig to re-open THIS WEEK
Benitachell ‘s Cala de Moraig beach is ready to welcome visitors again after repairing damage caused by storm Gloria.
Benitachell’s Town Hall has suggested the stunning Cala de Moraig will reopen this week as soon as repair works are completed.
The Servicio Provincial de Costas – an Alicante provincial body – has been building a footpath as well as other measures to protect the Cala from future storms.
The beach, in Benitachell’s Cumbre de Sol area, was closed following the gota fría tempest last January.
The provincial coastal service said the restoration has been one of the ‘biggest works’ done in Alicante following storm Gloria.
Aside from building a new footpath, also new is a roundabout to help cars turn around, a new carpark after the existing one was destroyed and closure of access to the Cova del Arcs to protect biodiversity.
The costs to restore the Cala and improve biodiversity reached 150,900e.
“We are very excited about how the Moraig cove has been improved with Costas’ help. It is a before-and0after for the beach,” said a spokesperson for Benitachell Town Hall during a site visit lsat week.
“We cannot go against nature, we have to go hand in hand, pamper it and respect it to the fullest.”
