Schoolboy behind the wheel

CATALONIA police pulled over a car with a nine-year-old boy at the wheel – his mother acting as ‘co-pilot’ in the passenger seat.
Officers on patrol in Sitges could not believe their eyes as the saloon car apparently travelling without a driver passed them.
The mystery was solved when the local police officers stopped the car – the driver was a schoolboy, his mother sitting next to him – and three-month-old baby passenger in chair in the rear.
Traffic officers explained: “The officers were on mobile patrol when the car passed them; it gave them a strange feeling because they could not see a driver in the car, there was just a woman in the passenger seat.”
The woman, understood to have Lithuanian nationality, is being prosecuted for allowing the minor to drive without a legal licence – a report of the incident has also been sent to the juvenile prosecutor’s office ‘in case’ it wishes to investigate and take further action against the adult.
