Coronavirus numbers soar in Benidorm as British tourists return in force to holiday destination

Benidorm officially becomes at extreme risk of the spread of coronavirus. According to the information provided by the Generalitat Valenciana the town of Alicante has reached an incidence of 254 infected with coronavirus per 100,000 inhabitants. This rate multiplies by six the average for the whole of Spain, which stands at 44.49 positive, as reported by the Ministry of Health this Friday.

In the last fourteen days Benidorm has registered 179 new infections of coronavirus, according to sources from the Regional Government’s Health Ministry. A fact that contrasts with those of the city of Valencia, which with about a million inhabitants scores 190 infections and its incidence is found in just 23 positive coronavirus per 100,000 inhabitants.

Coronavirus rampant in the UK

The escalation of coronavirus in Benidorm, is at the point of reaching extreme risk , coinciding with the return of British tourists, who after the end of the United Kingdom’s travel restrictions to Spain, they already represent 22 percent of the people who have visited the town in October and are consolidated as the main issuing market. The following positions are for the Belgian market with 3.7%, the Dutch market with 3.2% and the Portuguese market with 1%.

The increase in the incidence of Covid-19 in Benidorm has been accentuated after the ‘Puente Pilar’. During the accumulated month of October the tourist of national origin has represented 68% of the total of travelers who have stayed in hotels in the Alicante destination.

According to the latest official data, the cumulative incidence of coronavirus in the United Kingdom has soared to 894.2 per 100,000 inhabitants.
