“The vision of our company is to help bring the metaverse to life, so we change our name to reflect our commitment to this future,” announced Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, the company’s definitive shift to the metaverse. Now, Facebook will be called Meta. “We’re at the beginning of the next Internet chapter, and it’s also the next chapter for our company,” he insisted.

The announcement was made Thursday in the framework of the Facebook Connect 2021 event, where more details on the metaverse have been offered, the virtual environment where people can be present in digital spaces and which will be the basis for the creation of a new economic ecosystem of digital goods. According to Zuckerberg, this metaverse “is the next evolution of the social connection” and will be beneficial for society, for the economy and for the environment.

The name change will be reflected in the New York stock market as of December 1st, when the firm now listed under the FB will be listed under MVRS.
