Experts from the vaccine presentation will discuss on Wednesday the possibility of extending the age range for the administration of the third dose of the covid-19 vaccine. At this meeting it can be decided that the next ones will be those over 40 and will also discuss whether or not to extend it to essential workers.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, they meet to discuss this issue, which the President of the European Commission made a priority three weeks ago. The third dose of the vaccine is recommended so far for those over 60 years although Galicia has advanced it for those over 50.

The president of the Xunta, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has justified this Monday that the Galician health service has advanced this campaign with the intention of “gaining time” and advancing in the administration of booster doses. ” What we did was cite the under 60s, those between 59 and 50 to gain time” and even “there may be some people who already begin to vaccinate immediately,” admitted Núñez Feijóo.

On 23 November, the European Commission agreed to extend the third dose to those over 60, along with health and social and health services. It was then that the Ministry of Health did not rule out that little by little other groups were being incorporated, although the emphasis was on giving priority to completing the reinforcement of those over 60 and those vaccinated with Janssen before this Christmas.

Health authorities recommend that the third dose of the Covid-19 vaccine be administered at least 6 months after the second dose was completed. In addition, several clinical trials have shown that the inoculation of this booster increases the immune response, and thus prevents symptomatic cases of coronavirus.
