Catalonia reports the first cases of ‘flurona’ in Spain

The Catalan Ministry of Health has reported on Monday the first cases of “flurona” in the community.

It is a double infection of flu and coronavirus, which from the Department ensure is developing with a “mild and anecdotal” symptomatology.

This announcement comes after Israel reported the first case a day ago. An unvaccinated pregnant woman was diagnosed in the country.

The term ‘flurona’ is coined to the infection of more than one virus simultaneously, in this case that of the flu and that of the coronavirus. It should therefore be noted that this is not a recombined virus but two different viruses that occur at the same time.

The pharmaceutical company Moderna has already begun work and has begun studies on the subject with those who are trying to develop a single vaccine that combines booster doses against flurona, being an experimental vaccine.

Salut during the press conference, in addition to reporting on the detected cases of ‘flurona’ in the territory, has taken the opportunity to inform and clarify that from this Monday people with positive antigen test will be able to report it in pharmacies. A decision that seeks to decongest primary maintenance.

However, this process can only be carried out in the 1,300 pharmacies attached to the new circuit, which correspond to those that already offer rapid tests of supervised antigens (ART). When you go to the pharmacy and buy an antigen test you will proceed to the corresponding explanation, by which you will be asked for ID or CIP and phone number. Thus, in case of being positive, isolation will have to begin immediately and communicate the result by telematic.

Regarding the situation of coronavirus in the community, they say that for the moment they are “saturated but not collapsed” before the rise of all indicators, but they warn that “it is a critical moment for the population and the system”.

However, the return to the classrooms will take place “normally” although they are pending the meeting at the national and community levels.
