The Government approves today the end of the mask outdoors

The Council of Ministers approves today the end of the use of masks outdoors, we will only have to wear it at mass events. While if we are standing or sitting without being able to maintain the minimum safe distance, in street crowds or shopping centers the use of the mask becomes a recommendation.

This measure was agreed at a meeting of the Interterritorial Council of the National Health System where it was also decided to increase the capacity in sports competitions, including the Football League and the ACB basketball, from 75% to 85% if they are held in open spaces and from 50% to 75% if they are covered. Even so, the public must continue to respect measures such as the use of the mask and the safety distance.

As established by the Ministry and most communities, it will be advisable to wear the mask when urban agglomerations occur. For its part, the conditions under which it will be possible to remove the mask outdoors will be detailed in the royal decree.

Carolina Darias already advanced last Friday the intention of the Executive to eliminate the imposition of the mask outdoors, a measure that the Government adopted on 22 December last for a minimum indispensable time with the intention of containing the contagions of the omicron variant of the coronavirus, which then kept rising.

This measure was adopted at the request of almost all the regional leaders who demanded it at the Conference of Presidents held a day earlier, despite the fact that it was a measure questioned by experts in epidemiology and public health, which was described as an aesthetic measure that was of no use in containing the transmission of the coronavirus.
