The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, on Monday called for an extremely urgent meeting of the UN Security Council and the rapid adoption of targeted European sanctions against Russia, as recently the Russian President, Vladimir Putin has confirmed that he will recognize the separatist regions of eastern Ukraine, namely those of Luhansk and Donetsk.
Precisely, that decision taken by the President of Russia is ”a clear unilateral violation of Russia’s international commitments and a violation of Ukraine’s sovereignty’, reported the Elysée in a statement issued on Monday. For his part, the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, assures that ”condemns’ with total firmness the decision taken by Vladimir Putin and urgently calls for a ”meeting of the UN Security Council’ as well as the adoption of selective European sanctions’, added the statement.
The reaction taken by Macron was caused by the meeting he had with the National Security Council and also by a three-way telephone conference with Joe Biden, President of the United States, and with Olaf Scholz, Chancellor of Germany.
