Tomatina

The eighth month of the year comes loaded with appointments with Spanish culture and tradition in the form of dance, music, parades and festivals that will happen during 31 days. Cities such as Bilbao, Malaga and San Sebastián celebrate their most important festivals this month. With this panorama, anyone who is thinking of disconnecting to get to know the Spanish festive life will have it very easy.

Some of the parties have not been celebrated for several years due to sanitary restrictions because of COVID-19, which has caused an overload of emotion and desire to celebrate. That’s why both locals and outsiders go out with everything this summer to make up for lost time, in celebrations that aspire to be memorable.

So as not to overwhelm the number of parties, we have made a selection of the best festivals and pilgrimages of this August 2022.

Tomatina in Buñol

This is one of the most emblematic festivals in the Valencian Community and also one of the most popular. Since 1945, the Tomatina is a party that shines for its originality by turning the streets of Buñol into a pitched battle in which the weapons are tomatoes. Since 2002, it has been declared a party of tourist interest and since then the popularity has been such that you have to buy tickets in advance if you don’t want to miss out. The price is 12 euros and can be purchased through the official website of the Tomatina.

For the little ones, on Saturday 24 is planned the Tomatina for children, which will take place in the town square where children from 4 to 12 years old can participate and with free admission.

Semana grande in San Sebastián

On August 15, one of the festivities of the year of San Sebastian takes place. The Aste Nagusia, held from Saturday to Saturday, starts with the cannonade of the gardens of Alderdi Eder and from there come 7 days of concerts, which are crowned each night with a fireworks show, as part of the International Fireworks Competition. There is also open-air theatre, sports championships, traditional giant and big-headed parades and endless activities for children.

Malaga Fair

From 13 to 20 August, the Malaga Fair offers day after day of festivities with romeria included, in which the city center is filled with lights, flamenco and traditional dances. At night, the festivities are transferred to the Night Fair, in Cortijo de Torres and the Real, an enclosure of 80,000 square meters.

La Rama in Agaete

The Rama of Agaete returns after 2 years of pandemic. The Snow Festival of 2022, whose program has 40 acts, 5 festivals and the largest branch in its history, expects to surpass those of previous editions in influx and security consequences.

Among the acts that stand out in the programming, will include the Young Night, the concert of Pablo Milanés and the concert of Septeto Santiaguero, in addition to the tributes of Mana, Los Panchos, Luis de Guerra and Joaquín Sabina.
