The National Police have arrested a 36-year-old man with 40 previous arrests as the alleged perpetrator of a brutal beating of another 50-year-old man. The events took place on Sunday in Fuente de Lima street, in the Madrid district of Latina, and according to the investigators, the person responsible for the attack had been arrested several days ago.

Around 11:25 PM last night 091 received the warning from neighbours in the area that there was a bloody man lying in the middle of the street. When they arrived at the scene, the officers found that the victim was unconscious and had gone into cardiac arrest due to the strong blows received.

Paramedics quickly tried to revive him and in 12 minutes managed to stop the cardiac arrest. After that, the victim, who had a head injury, was transferred with a very serious prognosis to the Hospital Clínico San Carlos.

According to various sources, witnesses explained to the police that the offender had hit him on the head and that, after throwing the victim to the ground, he continued to kick him. After the neighbours shouted, the person responsible for the attack fled the scene.

Finally, around 3:00 in the morning of this Monday the offender was arrested. He is now awaiting judicial review and the judge’s decision whether to place him in pre-trial detention.

The police are keeping an investigation open to determine if the motive of the beating could be linked to an attempted robbery.
