The man, against whom there were no previous complaints, was in the house at the time of the event.
The National Police have arrested a 22-year-old man in connection with the death of his partner, of the same age, after falling from a sixth floor in Benidorm (Alicante).
The incident occurred this morning on Denmark Street, in the neighbourhood of Els Tolls, near the Local Police Station, and the couple, both of Spanish nationality resided in Benidorm.
Sources close to the investigation have informed EFE that the arrest the man is “for prevention” while waiting to determine whether he is responsible for the death of the woman or whether she had fallen. It has been confirmed that the man had no previous complaints and that the couple had no children.
The National Police has told EFE that neither of the two was included in the Viogen system and the government delegate in the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé, has explained that the young man is in police facilities, in the Benidorm Police Station.
Bernabé added that, before the event, there had been an argument between the two, a fact for which the National Police went to the house, since they had been alerted by the neighbours after loud screams were heard in the house during the morning, although officers did not see any apparent injuries.
The Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, said in a press conference that this death, which occurred in the early hours of this Thursday, is being investigated as a new case of gender violence, given that the detainee was in the house at the time of the event.
Police sources have highlighted that it was at 4.43 this Thursday when the partner of the victim called 112 and said that the woman had fallen through the window of a sixth floor.
“We still do not have the results of the investigation”, explained the National Police, which has said that at the moment it is not possible to “define the situation until we have all the data”.
This death, which is investigated as a crime, could make her the third woman murdered this week at the hands of a man, after the stabbing on Wednesday night of María Elena in Escalona (Toledo) and the death of a 20-year-old woman who was murdered by her mother’s ex-partner in Madrid on Wednesday.
The woman stabbed in Escalona, about to give birth, lived in the same house with her assailant.
