Rishi Sunak has announced a new shipment of military aid to Ukraine. With this gesture, the United Kingdom once again shows its support for Ukraine and is placed first as a Western country in terms of military aid.

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has placed the United Kingdom at the top of the list of Western powers supplying frontline battle tanks to Kiev. This first post is due to the confirmation that Sunak has made to the Ukrainian president, Volodymir Zelenski, on the sending of a batch of Challenger 2 tanks, as military aid against the Russian invasion.

A highlight in the history of military aid to Ukraine. However, NATO fears that Russia may consider the decision an intensification of the war.

The confirmation took place on Saturday through a call that the prime minister made to the Ukrainian president. In that call, Sunak assured the intention to “intensify British support to Ukraine, including by supplying Challenger 2 tanks and additional artillery systems”. In addition to this agreement, both have “welcomed” other international commitments including the offer of Poland, which provides a company of Leopard tanks.

Although confirmation by Downing Street is done, what remains to be determined is the exact number of these military vehicles. However, government sources had previously informed the tabloid that it was intended to send at least four tanks “immediately” and “eight more in the near future”.

Zelenski applauded the gesture of the United Kingdom and thanked the support they have always maintained and that now, with this gesture, “has become impenetrable”. He added that “decisions like this not only reinforce us on the battlefield, but also send the right signal to other allies”.

The head of the Presidency office, Andrei Yermak, has also applauded the shipment and has thanked, from his Twitter account, the new package of defense supplies “to combat the enemy”. The message ends by saying that “this is an important contribution to the defense of freedom and democracy in Europe”.
