Villajoyosa-based solar installer Xcel Energía says it has finished 2025 as Alicante’s “most active” solar installer, after completing more than 250 installations in the last 12 months.
The company said the milestone works out at around five installations a week, and credited its year-on-year growth to a focus on low-cost, effective solar installations.
The installations were attributed to the company’s partnership with Livoltek.
“I’m genuinely proud of what the team has achieved this year – hitting five installations a week is a huge moment for us,” said Martin Hill, owner of Xcel Energía.
Hill said the company’s shift towards Livoltek products accelerated after a customer asked Xcel Energía to add a new Huawei battery to an existing system.
“That call was the lightbulb moment,” Hill said.
“When I looked at the numbers, it was actually cheaper to remove the old Huawei inverter and install a new Livoltek all-in-one unit – with backup power and an integrated battery – than it was to retrofit the Huawei battery the customer asked for.”
He added that the longer-term benefit is in upgrade costs.
“With Livoltek, future battery upgrades can be thousands cheaper than adding extra batteries to brands like Huawei,” Hill said.
“But the reality is the quality and day-to-day usage is the same.”
Hill compared the shift in the solar sector to what he sees happening in electric vehicles.
“It reminds me of BYD. It’s innovating fast, it’s grown massively, and it’s forcing the market to rethink what value looks like,” he said, pointing to BYD’s recent momentum in Spain, including months in 2025 where it overtook Tesla in EV registrations.
“With Huawei, you can end up paying thousands extra mainly for the brand name, not for extra performance or extra savings,” Hill added.
Xcel Energía also operates as the official Alicante partner of Mariposa Energía, which has grown into one of Spain’s established solar and green energy businesses.
Mariposa Energía began in San Pedro de Alcántara in Málaga province in 2019, before opening its first Alicante office in June 2022 and then relocating to a new depot in Villajoyosa in 2023.
That Villajoyosa depot is managed by Martin Hill and his business Xcel Energía.
Xcel Energía serves solar clients across Alicante province – from Torrevieja to Jávea, and inland – and says every new client is offered a free site visit, Q&A, a bespoke proposal, and follow-up visits for further advice or questions.
The company began its partnership as a national distributor of Livoltek products in summer 2023.
Livoltek manufactures solar panels, inverters, batteries and EV chargers, positioning itself as a lower-cost alternative to premium brands.
