The hospital boasts a highly specialised team and minimally invasive techniques

Clinical excellence, the incorporation of cutting-edge technology, and a care model focused on rapid patient recovery have placed Quirónsalud Torrevieja Hospital at the forefront of traumatology in the province of Alicante. The centre has taken a decisive step forward with the creation of its Advanced Traumatology Team, now regarded as one of the most comprehensive and highly specialised in the region. This approach combines minimally invasive procedures, super-specialised units, and fast-track care pathways that enable more accurate diagnoses, safer interventions, and significantly faster recoveries.

This multidisciplinary model is structured around five key units: Foot and Ankle, Knee, Shoulder, Hip, and the Advanced Trauma Surgery Unit. All are led by highly experienced specialists and employ state-of-the-art techniques to deliver highly qualified care.

The Foot and Ankle Unit, coordinated by Dr Jesús García, stands out for its ability to treat both sports injuries and complex deformities. Its work is supported by advanced imaging methods that reduce surgical risks and promote early recovery. Key procedures include foot and ankle arthroscopy—essential for treating ligament and tendon injuries with less postoperative pain—as well as the comprehensive management of common conditions such as ankle sprains, plantar fasciitis, and tendon ruptures.

Under the leadership of Dr María Tiscar García, the Knee Unit has become a provincial benchmark in the treatment of sports-related injuries and in the use of arthroscopic and minimally invasive techniques. The most common procedures include treatments for cartilage injuries, ligament and meniscal tears (repair or meniscectomy) performed arthroscopically, and a range of regenerative therapies. The unit applies advanced arthroscopy to virtually any joint pathology and is also a reference centre for knee osteoarthritis, whether treated with total or unicompartmental knee replacements or through revision surgery of prostheses that have lost functionality. All of this translates into faster recoveries, earlier returns to activity, and very high levels of patient satisfaction.

The Shoulder Unit, led by Dr Miguel Ángel Moltó and Dr Francisco García Zafra, provides comprehensive care for both sports injuries and degenerative conditions, as well as complex disorders of the musculoskeletal system. Its main strength lies in state-of-the-art arthroscopy, a technique that has revolutionised shoulder treatment and is also applied to small joints of the hand, particularly in cases of rhizarthrosis, where minimally invasive approaches are especially beneficial. In addition, the service offers specialised treatments for rotator cuff injuries, solutions for tendon disorders such as epicondylitis, and expert management of complex fractures and post-traumatic sequelae. Continuous team training ensures that patients have access to the most advanced techniques without long waiting times.

Also led by Drs Moltó and García Zafra, the Hip and Pelvis Unit focuses on degenerative and mechanical hip conditions, applying highly precise surgical techniques. It plays a particularly important role in patients with osteoporosis, where bone deterioration can lead to fractures even after minor falls. This unit performs hip replacement surgery using advanced methods that reduce risks and speed up recovery, reconstructive surgeries to correct deformities or traumatic sequelae, and procedures specifically aimed at restoring mobility, balance, and independence. In many cases, hip surgery becomes a decisive tool for relieving pain and restoring function when conservative treatments are no longer effective. The team also has extensive experience in the surgical treatment of pelvic fractures associated with high-energy accidents, particularly traffic, occupational, or sports-related injuries.

At an even higher level of specialisation is the Advanced Trauma Surgery Unit, led by Dr Alban Maehr. This service focuses on the treatment of complex musculoskeletal injuries, using cutting-edge technologies, minimally invasive approaches, and reconstructive techniques designed to restore bones, joints, tendons, ligaments, and soft tissues. Its goal is to ensure maximum safety, precision, and rapid recovery, even in cases of severe trauma or chronic conditions that are difficult to resolve.

Thanks to this structure of super-specialised units, the prestige of its medical team, the widespread use of minimally invasive techniques, and fast, personalised care protocols, the Traumatology Service at Quirónsalud Torrevieja Hospital has established itself as one of the leading references in Alicante. Its care model, centred on medical excellence and the patient experience, enables the hospital to offer advanced solutions and outstanding results for people of all ages and activity levels.
