The Health Ministry has adjusted the number of deaths due to coronavirus in Spain to almost 2,000 less than those reported until this Sunday.

After the revision the number stands at 26,834 since the start of the pandemic, yesterday it was reported to be 28,752.

The number of infected people has also suffered a slight downward correction, which has been reduced by 372 to 235,400.

The Ministry  said the variations were due to “discrepancies in validation” by the autonomous communities and the transition to a new reporting strategy.

Health minister Salvador Illa also admitted that “the discrepancy could last for several days.”

The Ministry reported 50 new deaths from coronavirus yesterday, marking nine straight days that the daily death toll has been below 100.

Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska has dismissed the head of the Civil Guard in Madrid, Colonel Diego Pérez de los Cobos saying they’ve lost confidence in him.

The Ministry, who have not disclosed the reason say that the incident occured recently.
