Travel: EasyJet moves planes from UK to Germany. Airline switch as Europe opens to travel

BRITAIN’S biggest budget airline EasyJet is switching planes to Germany to fly European holidaymakers as many of the UK’s favourite destinations remain on the amber list.

Different coronavirus travel restrictions mean British tourists have to self-isolate on their return from holiday – but must also supply a negative Covid test before departure and take two PCR tests, costing around £100, during the 10-day quarantine.

The amber list now includes Spain, Italy, Greece, and following its demotion from being a green destination on the traffic light system, Portugal. Restrictions are likely to remain in place until ‘before August’.

As a result, EasyJet said it was moving capacity as other European governments progressively ‘opened up’ to enable travel – adding 150,000 seats to its intra- European network.

In a statement, the carrier said: “Europe is demonstrating that a safe reopening of travel is possible and so we continue to urge the UK Government to do so urgently so our customers can reunite with loved ones or travel for a much-needed break.”

Travel experts have described July as a ‘white wash’ for the travel industry. Holiday company TUI has already said it was axing more trips to top European destinations up until July.
