Spain’s National Centre for Microbiology has confirmed the first case of coronavirus in a man quarantined on the remote island of La Gomera in the Canaries. He was one of five people taken into observation on the island after it was found they had come into contact, before travelling to the Canaries, with a German man who was diagnosed with the virus.

Prosecutors are asking for eight years imprisonment for former president of Madrid, Ignacio González, should he be found guilty of corruption. The Public Prosecutor’s Office as presented formal charges of fraud and embezzlement of public funds between 2012 and 2014, valued at between 6 to 9 million euros. Mr González denies any wrongdoing.

Orihuela Costa’s beaches will soon have a far greater police presence, for the first time since 2013. Bathers’ security will be improved by the introduction of a new ‘beach surveillance and proximity unit’.
