As you may or may not be aware we were going to be holding a Cancer Care Charity ¨sponsored walk¨on Sunday 17th May and even with the releases planned it is not going to be possible to run anything like this for several weeks or months.
We, therefore, wanted to explore the possibility of doing a virtual walk – The distance that we had chosen for the actual walk was from The Parador to Cala Blanca – a distance of around 5km return. So the idea is that we all complete the distance however we can in the way that we want and feel safe.
We plan to have a 5€ entrance fee – donated via Go fund me and which all proceeds will go to the care of clients in the Area with Cancer through our Lynwen´s Nursing and Advisor Team.
The idea is that you could download an app like the ones below, or just use the health app provided with your Android or iPhone, or just work out a distance that you know near to you and send us the description of it . Once you have done your 5km walk then you let us know – either just by sending us a photo of the steps and distance done – or some do fancy pictures of where you have walked and how far and how long it took. We will then send you your completed certificate for the event.
I know it isn’t the same as us all being there and doing it together but at least if we do something virtually we are all sharing the same distance just all totally different experiences. We will collate a collage of everyone’s data ( who are happy to share ) after the walk.
It can be completed in your allotted walking time – some may do it in their 1-day walking session but for others like myself you can do it over a couple of days. Or if you have chosen no to go out of your homes and gardens you can complete it in the safety of your own flat, villa garden or terrace, just measure the distance you can walk safely in your own space and multiply it up to 5km
We would, therefore, be looking to run it from 25th May – 31st May
Once you register your 5 Euros on the Go funding and please make a note on there that it is for the Sponsored Walk we will be waiting eagerly for your completion stories and pictures, tell us how you did it, where you did it and if you can include photos of your route.
I hope that many of you will join as it is for a great cause but also it is for you, exercising is vital for our immune systems and for us to remain in tip-top condition should we be unfortunate enough to contract the virus
We are looking forwards to hearing everyone’s stories.
