Orihuela Costa’s beaches will soon have a far greater police presence, for the first time since 2013. Bathers’ security will be improved by the introduction of a new ‘beach surveillance and proximity unit’. As well as preventing thefts, the additional uniform presence will police the illegal sale of clothing, food and drink and massage services.
Spanish retail sales rose by 1.7% in December from a year earlier on a calendar-adjusted basis, after rising by a revised 2.5% in November. The INE said the November figure was revised down from a preliminary reading of a rise of 2.9%.
The latest survey on employment in Spain, published by the National Statistics Institute, the INE showed that by the end of 2019 unemployment had dropped to 13.78 per cent, the lowest annual figure since 2008.
