Revolutionary test for early cancer diagnosis: “We will cure 90% of patients”.

Cancer is the disease from which most people die worldwide due to its virulence and difficult treatment. For this reason, many studies are looking for new and better ways to detect and fight tumors. In this regard, a method has recently been discovered that will completely change the fight against up to 50 different types of cancer.

It is called the early diagnosis test and, after 10 years of intensive research, it manages to detect a tumor before it shows its face, thus increasing the chances of a cure. It is performed as a simple blood test and is aimed at people over 50 who have not been diagnosed with cancer and have no symptoms of the disease.

“It is a diagnosis: you have a tumor, what happens is that we are diagnosing it in a way that is far ahead of traditional tests in time,” explains oncologist Antonio Cubillo.

In Europe, only one hospital performs this test, and it is located in Madrid. This test rules out the disease and reduces cancer mortality, as well as morbidity. “There will be practically no patients with advanced tumors, which is a joy, and we will cure 90% of the patients we diagnose,” says Cubillo.

This test will be able to detect up to 50 different types of tumors in the coming years. At the moment, the test is only applied to four different cancers, namely colon, pancreatic, prostate and lung, some of the most common.

This paradigm shift in oncology revolutionizes both the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. “A before and after, not only for our patients, but also for the healthy and asymptomatic population,” says the oncologist. One more step towards a future where most tumors are cured or become chronic.
