A ‘ PRETTY POWERFUL’ gota fría weather event has been predicted to hit the Costa Blanca from this Sunday, according to Alicante University’s Climatology Laboratory. The crack weather team expects a drop in temperature to hit all of Eastern Spain, with rain and snow ‘making headlines’ in various areas. A statement from the lab said an ‘anticyclone’ will hit from the Spanish peninsular and head south towards North Africa.

Alicante-Elche airport was closed following the outbreak of a fire in the terminal yesterday at around 13.30. A British fugitive wanted for two killings in the UK has been arrested in the Canary Islands. John Kennedy, was held over the Glasgow deaths of Jamie Campbell in 2006 and Kenny Reilly in 2018. He was detained in Tenerife on a European Arrest Warrant as he left a supermarket in the south of the island.
