EU competition regulators have widened their investigation into additional incentives granted by Spanish authorities to Ryanair and other airlines operating at two airports in Catalonia. The European Commission launched an investigation in 2013 into marketing schemes offered to airlines operating at the Girona-Costa Brava and Reus airports, about 120 km from Barcelona.

Jailed Catalan pro-independence leaders Carme Forcadell and Dolors Bassa have been temporarily released from prison. Forcadell, the former parliament speaker, was granted 3 days of leave each week for 9 hours each day in order to take care of her mother, as laid out in the Spanish constitution. Former minister Bassa was also given permission to take care of an elderly relative under the same rules.

A meeting between Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and the head of the conservative Popular Party (PP), Pablo Casado, concluded yesterday with no agreements. National Police have arrested the parents of a 22-month-old baby girl on the Costa Blanca for child neglect after the toddler was admitted to hospital in serious condition for cannabis poisoning. The child had been taken to Villajoyosa Hospital by her parents after she fell unconscious at home. She was then transferred to the Pediatric ICU of Alicante Hospital.

The Supreme Court has ruled that the management company first contracted to build Corvera Airport, must repay €183 million of a government bank loan. Aeromur, who were awarded the contract as far back as 2007, must now repay the debt that had accumulated after years of delays in the construction of San Javier's airport replacement, despite being bankrupt. Spanish farmers staged a fresh demonstration on Friday in protest at the low prices of their produce. They cut off roads with their tractors in a number of parts of the country in a repeat of industrial action they have been taking since the end of January. A hoax bomb threat has caused the evacuation of employees from the Amazon headquarters in Madrid yesterday morning. The retail giant’s HQ based in the Arganzuela district was cleared after a call was received about a suspicious item. The site was subsequently evacuated and an inspection carried out, workers were able to return to their posts shortly before 1:00pm.
